Fly on the wings of your talent

??????????

Your talent is your most powerful asset

God has given you the talents you have so that you may do great things for the world. You are wonderfully talented.
Some people know their talents; some do not. It is important that you discover your talent.  When you do, develop it and let it explode. Those who do this shine and are greatly admired.  A good example is the stars that we know in football, music etc.

Today we round off our series on talent. We shall focus on developing and exploding your talent. There are people who are blessed with enormous talents but who do nothing with them; and their talents lie dormant and waste away. Crazy, isn’t it?

Why is this so?
This may be so because they are:

  • Too lazy;
  • Are indifferent;
  • Do not know what to do.

Let us look at them closely:
Being too lazy
If you are too lazy to develop and exploit your talent, that is too bad for you.  You will be the one to suffer. Wise King Solomon says in his Proverbs:

  • ‘Being lazy will make you poor, but hard work will make you rich.’(Proverbs 10:4).
  • ‘Lazy people will never have money’ (Proverbs 11:16).
  • ‘Hard work will give you power; being lazy will make you a slave.’ (12:24)

Being indifferent
If you are indifferent and do not care to develop and use you talent, it will remain dormant. It will be like a sleeping giant. People who want to create an impact care about the things that are important such as developing their talents.

Not knowing what to do

Many people do not know what to do to develop their talent.
There are things you can do to do develop and exploit your talents for optimum results.  These are:

Take the decision to develop your talents
This is the starting point. If you want to do something you must take the decision to do it.
Work hard to develop your talent
A talent can be likened to your muscle. If you exercise your muscle you will have strong muscles. If you neglect it, you will have a flabby muscle. If you see someone displaying a talent in a spectacular way, know that the person has worked hard to develop it. Examples are football players who spend long hours on the football pitch training; singers spend long hours practicing. The key word is practice or training.

Nurture your talent

See your talent as a seed that you plant in the soil. You have to water it, mulch it, weed it and trim it if need be for it to grow well

.
Seek help

There are people who can help you make your talent blossom. Look for them and let them help you.

Develop the drive to grow in your talent

This will come from the passion you have to develop your talent. If you are passionate about it, you will be determined; and with determination you will overcome any obstacles that come your way.

Find an enabling Environment

An enabling environment is necessary. Surround yourself with people who will help and encourage your talent to grow. If you are surrounded by people who eat and sleep, you will also be eating and sleeping. If you are surrounded by people who are all striving to bring out the best in them, or in others, you will be motivated to do same.

Focus on your talent

If you disperse your efforts, you will not develop your talent to the full. You have to focus on your talent.

Try new things

If you never try, you will never know what you can do. Go out and face challenges and try to overcome them. Try writing that book. Try starting that project.

Draw inspiration from talented people

Read their stories of talented people. Watch them on screen. Follow them and you will learn a lot from them.

Learn as much as you can about you field

Talent comes from mastery.Try to become a master of your field. Be an expert.

Persist

Know that talent is not built in one day. If you try to do not succeed, persist. Try and try again. It is by working on it and persisting that you become proficient.
