Is the real hero always hailed?

Quite often,
It’s not the real hero who is hailed;
It’s someone else
Who might have nothing
To do with the heroic act;
Quite often, it’s not the real culprit
Who is punished;
It’s an innocent one who pays the price;
While the culprit goes scotch-free;
Quite often
It’s not the brilliant student
Who passes the exam with flying colors;
It’s the dull student
Who knows how to win the examiner’s heart;
Quite often
It’s not the best candidate
Who gets the job;
It’s the candidate who knows
How to oil the hands of those doing the selection;
Quite often
It’s not the most competent
Who gets the promotion;
It’s the one who is well connected.
These are things you should know;
If you don’t,
What a pity!
The truth is, often,
It’s not the real hero who is hailed;
It’s some fake fellow.
