The evil that lies-telling does

The evil that lies-telling does,
Is more than anyone’s tongue
Can tell;
Friendship, with ease,
To pieces it shatters;
Marriages, in mouthfuls, it eats away;
And slowly but surely destroys the world;
What a shame what lies-telling can do!
It’s made innocents suffer great pain;
Shamelessly set confirmed crooks free;
It’s such an evil no one can deny;
Nothing good has it ever done;
If not throwing in lots of confusion,
Destruction, and what have you?
Even when it appears to be doing good,
All it’s actually doing is evil;
That’s the evil that lies-telling does
