dedicated to my daughter on her 21st birthday
By:- Ranjeeta Nath Ghai
I remember the time
I used to sing you a lullaby.
To ensure that you slept well.
Cradled in my arms
Positioned next to my heart
You grew up.
As you grew I learnt
The art of being patient.
Every day that passes by
I look at your picture
Placed right where I can see it on waking up
And cherish the memories that we share.
Gone like a summer breeze
Lost forever my darling.
Gone; lost in a sea of time.
They live in our hearts
And will always be there.
You came from within me,
From just beneath my heart.
As you grow into a beautiful woman
My heart is filled with laughter and joy,
Mixed with a few tears to cry.
My little girl, you’ll always be.
Do you know how much you mean to me?
Sometimes though I may seem harsh
And unfair. But it’s only because I care.
You’re growing up so fast,
It sends me awhirl.
You’ll always be my source of pride,
And never a thorn in my side.
No matter where you go
You’ll always be my winner,
That is one truth you must always know.
