A Welcome Distraction

By: Ranjeeta Nath Ghai

I sit straight for moments together
Slouched back in my seat
As my energy drips away
I drag my car through the traffic
And count the tears of frustration I shed.
Dragging my feet… I sigh,
It’s not the pain that’s unbearable
It’s the worries; the truths
I chose so randomly
To write off as tacit lies.

I yearn for the silver and crystal sand
That glittered in the moonlight
The ocean waves that grace the beaches
Quenching the thirst of a distracted soul
Slowly ripping the poison of worries away.
