A Stairway to Heaven

The stairway is long;
A never-ending stairway
Rising to the moon and back.
I climb one step at a time.
It’s a trip.
Each step taking me closer to the top.
Intoxicating heights;
Helplessly I look for support
Finding none.
Day after day and night after night
Tiny steps
One after another
Sometimes losing my footing
Hearing swirling voices
Whispering inside my head,
“What if I fall down the long stairway
that I have climbed so high?”
Yet, I go on climbing the stairway,
Guided by my internal quest.
Once more I stand on the first step.
As I now look down
On a desolate world.
I look forward to touching the stars
And the moon who are
Awaiting my arrival
In the ebony skies
Were dreams dance
On butterfly wings
With rainbows in the moonlight.
