When “Love” Is Loved

Like waking to an early dawn and a cup of your favorite blend, you head out to trim your roses before it gets too hot. With surgical precision you snip, carefully removing the dead as though it’s a cancer. Careful not to step on the daisies and daffodils, you tip toe through your Garden of Eden that you built with love in the early spring. God has blessed you. You feel his presence; your heart is warmed like the morning sun. Meticulously, you kneel as to honor the thorns; one by one you gather the roses.

Or maybe it’s a rundown dwelling that hasn’t seen any attention in many, many years. You look at the possibilities…. the location is perfect. So, room by room you design your dream home. Painstakingly, you hit your thumb and a tear comes. You comment, what was I thinking? Slowly your dreams turn into a reality; all those bumps and bruises turn into love. A relationship begins to abound as your hands create the dreams of a lifetime. Again, you find yourself kneeling once more. The travertine is the final step. You’ve waited months to see your sample board come to life.

Then there’s the one you vowed to – the one that runs to the store in the pouring rain, or surprises you with a bouquet. It’s not a special occasion. It’s another normal afternoon; they’re just happy to come home to you. Maybe they make the bed or breakfast for you on a Saturday.

No matter the expression, you “love” the love, as it only comes as soul mates unite. God so loved, as we should too; not expected but continuously without fail; to honor and adore, the way we groom our flowers – with pride. It’s as if you restored that dilapidated an old home yourself…. we acknowledge the value.

A little known fact about “love” is that it was a verb in the old Testament, but a noun in the New Testament. So which do you prefer – the act or the art? Day after day, we go through the motions, living out our dreams. Your house needs repair and the roses need attention. Your love is merely that which will get stronger.

Complacent within your soul, your hair turns gray and life has slipped away. Unable to keep up the dream, you sell your home and the love you cherish has done much the same. Forgetting the basics of what God has said, giving is the best medicine.

“Love”, the vitamin we need every day. Will it be YOUR art or just an act?
