Solitary man

As I calmly savored my meal
At the foot of the hill,
Across the stream, solitary;
And dressed as in the military;
Looking lean and broken, a man sat,
Wearing an old hat.
He looked like a wild beast;
What I cherished least.
To get help, I tried to shout;
But not even a word came out.

Solitary
