Gratitude Mantra

I’ve got a small beef with many spiritual disciplines both matriarchal and patriarchal in that there seems to be a dirth of ritual dedicated to the simple celebration of gratitude for favors received.

I went looking around for some. I’m sure they do exist, but not anywhere I could locate them easily.

So I created the Gratitude Mantra.

My Gratitude Mantra is composed of the words “thank you” in every language within reach of my hands at the moment of writing.

I repeat it when life is good.  And I repeat it when life is not so good, to remind me of how good it reall still is.

It’s recited in a happy, bouncy kind of rhythm, and it goes:

“Hvala, Tak, Bedankt, Merci, Bitte, Grazi, Obrigado, Gracias, and Thank YOU!…

“Hvala, Tak, Bedankt, Merci, Bitte, Grazi, Obrigado, Gracias, and Thank YOU!…

“Hvala, Tak, Bedankt, Merci, Bitte, Grazi, Obrigado, Gracias … and Thank YOU! … ”

Yes we could repeat the Lords Prayer 10 times but do we mean what the words say or is it just words. We need to feel what we say all to Gods glory

      1. I agree with you both. It is so important — to ourselves and to others — to mean what we say:

        *****

        It is Ourselves We Miss

How often do we disrespect the word!
We say what we think others wish to hear
Not pausing to remember once ’tis heard
Unto ourselves we have been insincere

What harm doth it, we mental shrug and ask
To speak contrary to our honest thought
If by such means in social glow we bask
        Our popularity so cheaply bought?

The price we pay is nameless anxiousness
Which gnaws away at us from inside out
A feeling of unease, subtle duress
Which makes us wonder what it’s all about

We’re lonely, and we suffer just for this:
It is ourselves, our inmost selves, we miss
