General Elections In Cambodia
The results of the elections in Cambodia will be announced on the 15th of August, according to Hun Sen the ruling leader of the Cambodia People’s Party (CPP). He has been the President for the last 30 years and it appears his party has won the majority, that is 125 seats in the Lower House. A crackdown by the CPP saw a high turnout as people were apparently intimidated with the loss of jobs and homes as well as the cutting of their water and electricity.
73rd Anniversary Of Hiroshima and Nagasaki- Setsuko Thurlow
The anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was marked with special events throughout Japan and in the world all calling for the UN Treaty to be ratified. In calling for peace by more the survivors of the nuclear bombing to come forward to share their stories and having a world free of nuclear weapons, a survivor called Setsuko Thurlow, 86, spoke in Toronto, Canada. She is leading figure in the Nobel Peace Prize organisation and said “In democracy, citizens have a right to be listened to by their Government and the Government has a responsibility to protect its citizens,”
2020 Japan Olympics Games- Daylight Saving Time
With the recent very high temperatures up to 41.1C in Japan, Daylight Saving Time is being discussed. It is less than 2 years before Japan holds the Olympic Games and it is feared the heat will impact on the athletes and their performance. on locals, tourists and visitors. Shinzo Abe, PM and Yoshiro Mori 2020 Olympic Games President and ex-Japan and former PM met to talk about this plan. Mr Abe’s agenda is for his Government to discuss it. An NHK poll reports 51% of respondents agree to this plan, however some government officials reckon it may affect businesses and people’s lives.

A retired midwife who enjoyed a satisfying career after years of rejecting it as a career choice. After becoming a Mum for the second time, somehow I just could not resist the call to midwifery any longer.
