Pope Francis condemns Child Sex Abuse and Church Cover-Ups

In a letter to the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics Pope Francis condemns the child sex abuse that had gone on for decades.  He called for the end of the “culture of death” in the Church and addresses the failure of the Church to deal with the abuse and asks for forgiveness.  A recent report on cases of child sex abuses in Pennsylvania for seven decades with over 1,000 minors abused by 300 priests is one of the places where failure occurred. There were people in senior position who knew and did not take any action to protect the children or bring to justice the culprits.

Measles Cases Are On The Increase In Europe

The figures on Measles from the World Health Organisation (WHO) show more than 41,000 people have been infected in the first six months of 2018, which led to 37 deaths.  For the year 2017 the number infected was 23,927, in 2016 it was 55,273.  The WHO thinks the low uptake of the Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccination and advised European countries to take action.  Public Health England has put the rise in the numbers in England to people from mainland Europe arriving from areas with recent outbreaks of measles.
