The Case Of Present Ageing Population of UKs Top Politicians And The Emerging New Young MPs With Youthful Vigour

More than ever, we increasingly hear of the cost of the ageing population on the government purse.   However, take a look at the age range of the top politicians and most would qualify for the Freedom Pass.  Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn is 69 and John McDonnell is 67, Tory’s Theresa May is 62 as is her Chancellor, the Lib Dem’s Vince Cable is 75.   There is a disconnection with the very people affected by the pressing issues of the time, such as Brexit, job uncertainty, student debt and acute housing shortage- these are the young and the middle-aged.  It would be refreshing to see the new entrants to Parliament given the chance to make bold contributions that standout as of future leaders.

Labour has a seen the grouping of those who were active in the CND era, with trade unionists of the 1980s and members of the Momentum mostly under the age of 30.  Some of the Labour leaders are even promoting the idea of the next leader of the party being a female.  The female who have shown the qualities needed for ths high office of Prime Minister and Chancellor are Angela Rayner,38;  Rebecca Long-Bailey, 39; and Emily Thornbury, 57.

The Conservatives have not got anything like it and they seem to be comfortable thinking they are the only party with the capabilities of being in government. There are some new outspoken young MPs, they are ones to keep an eye on and these are Kemi Badenoch, 38, Member for Saffron Walden, Tom Tugendhat, Bim Afolami, and Alan Mak. The Lib Dem leader has announced that he will be stepping down.  The political parties need to be proactive in sorting out how to attract the younger generation.
