Taiwan- An Island Off The Coast Of Mainland China

A travel show presenter explores Taiwan by starting in Tainan, the ancient capital built by the Dutch in the 17th century.  The island dates back to tens of thousands of years since human inhabited it, then came the Dutch to colonise it.   The Han Chinese and the Hakka immigrants from the Fujian and Guangdong areas of China across the Strait of Taiwan followed to Taiwan.  Before all this, the inhabitants of Taiwan formerly known as Formosa were aboriginal people from across the Pacific.  The population is diverse because Japan occupied the island during the Second World War.

The period of the Taiwan miracle at the latter half of the 20th century saw a growth of the economy with rapid industrialisation.
