The joys or pains of love?

Isn’t the test of love
Twofold?
Effected on
The one that loves,
And the one that is loved?
Measured in length,
Width and depth?
And what is love
That is so hard to master?
Many’s springboard
To an early demise;
Soothes and bites
With equal vigour.
Can’t the sting of pain
In love be ejected?
Or from its claws
Removed?
Love, it’s you I seek,
Not your sting;
For I know the sharpness
Of your blade;
You bite and you blow;
I want you gentle
And soft;
That my need to love
And be loved may be met.
And fully met.
