Viccissitudes of our love (Poem No 85 from 100 poems for my sweetheart by Ngobesing Suh Romanus)

When I think of you and I,
Where we are coming from,
Where we are today,
And where it is possible
That we land,
Many thoughts pass through
My mind;
And I cannot help
Shaking my head in disbelief:
Life has
Many viccissitudes;
Many temptations;
The devil is always lurking
Around to prey on one;
Life has
Many heart aches;
Moments when one feels pain
In one’s heart,
And cannot do anything about;
Life has
Many moments of doubt;
When many doubts eat up
One’s heart and mind
From inside;
Life has
Many moments of uncertainty;
When one is not sure
What lies ahead;
Life has
Many moments of worries;
When like ants
Worries devour one’s heart;
So, as I see it,
What one needs is strong faith,
Courage and full trust in God,
To sail through these viccissitudes of our love;
I Pray then my dear,
That God may give me courage
Above all faith in Him
To put myself in his palms;
That I may not be swept off
My feet;
But instead that I may stand strong
Even when the storm is strongest
In our relationship.
