Dumbfounded (New love poem 7 by Ngobesing Suh Romanus)

I told her I loved her;
And asked if she would
Be mine for ever;
A cold shoulder
I got from her;
She was loud to tell me
How impecunious I was;
And went on
To rant;
Her utterances
Stung me like a bee;
So mortified,
I responded, saying
I had a commodity
Far more valuable
Than cash to offer her;
Which was my heart.
And, to say the least,
She was dumbfounded.
