If someone had told me in December 2019 that the world will be put on its knees by an ultramicroscopic infection i would have laughed and not taken it serious.

But here we are as coronavirus has gained global traction and as a result World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a pandemic and this of course has affected the world in an unprecedented manner.

Personally i think two factors are responsible for the wide spread of this virus;

  • Government mishandling of Information

When it was first discovered in China, the Chinese government tried to suppress and cover it up and when they could no longer hide it, that was when it became known to the public and even at that time most countries took it lightly saying it was just a flu especially by the superpowers.

  • Misguided notion
One would have expected the so called world powers to have taken decisive and proactive steps in combating the virus the moment it first came to public notice instead they were playing blame game and World Health Organization was busy wondering why there was little or no cases in Africa but waited until it got out of hands before declaring it a pandemic.

South korea was the most infected country outside of China but as at now Italy has taken that position to the extent that Italy and some other countries are on lockdown.

South Korea have been able to contain and reduce the spread of the virus due to proper handling and responsive measures put in place by the Korean government and as a result some patients have recovered from it.

But the case is different in Europe according to reports Hospitals in Italy have been overwhelmed

ROME – As in any war, we have to choose who to treat and who not.

That was a headline on March 9 in Il Corriere della Sera, a leading newspaper in Italy, that informed us that hospitals in Italy’s north, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, were being stretched thin and the health care system was on the brink of collapse.

Economic activities have been slowed down or grounded all over the world as a result of the virus. Some notable world leaders and celebrities have tested positive to the virus.

Countries have placed travel restrictions on each other, Schools, Churches closed, events canceled and all sport related activities in Europe have also been suspended due to the spread of the virus.

Some organizations have asked their employees to work from home while Universities in korea resumes the spring semester tomorrow with online classes and students who traveled during Christmas holiday and are yet to book their flight back to school have also been advised to take this semester off.

World Health Organization said that they are doing everything possible to solve the problem but in the meantime there are several measures we can take to protect ourselves from COVID-19.

One of the most important ones is regular and safe hand hygiene.

Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow if you cough or sneeze.

Stay home if you are sick.

Avoid unnecessary travel and large social gatherings.

Comply with the advice of your local/national health authority.

My thoughts are with everyone affected and thanks to every health worker around the world and i pray God will grant scientists and researchers divine wisdom in coming up with a cure.

Until next time, don’t give up the fight.. #StaySafe and God bless.
