How to get to the top

If you have a burning desire to get to the top, you can count yourself lucky. You’re cut for greatness. You wouldn’t desire greatness unless you’re cut for it.

Read on.

How do you see the people at the top of the social ladder in the world? Admirable, aren’t they?

Honestly, I find something magnetic about them. These people who live in ivory towers.

And do you know what?

You can be like them.

You can also get to the top and shine and spark, and others will admire you; and want to be like you.

If you want to know how, excellent!

Just keep reading!

We are embarking on a journey from the bottom to the top so that you can see how the super stars make it.

How did little known Barack Obama become President of the United States? His life and achievements teach all the lessons on how to get to the top.

If you are looking for a miracle in the modern world, this man’s rise to the Presidency is one. But he created it.

Oprah Winfrey is a miracle. And she created her miracle.

The dream of most young people growing up is to get to the top of the ladder of life.

They want to get to a position where life is comfortable and they do not have to strain to make both ends meet.

Unfortunately, for many of them, they hardly get anywhere near it.

Instead, they are at the bottom, at best somewhere in the middle, where they strain a lot to put even one meal on their table; talk less of footing their bills and taking care of their other needs.

The fate of many

This is the fate of the majority of people in the world. They live a hand-to- mouth life.

Only a few swim in opulence.

These few turn around and find everything. They virtually have all that they need.

Can you imagine yourself living in such abundance? Such luxury? Can you be part of this class of people?

My answer is yes, you can. Everybody can. We all have what it takes to.

But many of us are not aware of the potential that we have to get there. We don’t even know where to start to get to that level.

Fortunately, that is something anyone can learn.

First, we each have to drive into our mind that it is not by magic that people get to the top. There is a way or ways to get there. There are things to do. Steps to follow.

All that you need to do is to find the way leading to the top; decide how to travel, and then out you go.

If you are ready to do that, I am ready to show you how.

Are you ready?

Okay! No time to waste. Let’s go!

  • Know your destiny

Put in your head that your place in this world is at the top; and that you were born for the top and nowhere else.

  • Decide

Decide that you will get to the top where you belong.

  • Resolve that nothing will stop you; that you will overcome all the obstacles on the way to get there.
  • Be specific!

Choose the exact place that you want to get to. To say you want to get to the top is not good enough. It is too general and you cannot stay at that level. You need to be specific; to state precisely where you want to go.

If you hare done all this, move to the next step:

State how you intend to do it

How do you intend to achieve the goal you have set? What is your plan of action?

Draw up a plan of action

You need a plan to get to where you want to go. You cannot do everything at a go. You cannot work haphazardly. A plan is necessary so that you can do each thing at its right time.

Show the various rungs

A plan is like a ladder. Show the various rungs you must climb and state how you intend to climb each of them.

Set achievable goals

If your goals are too big or unrealistic, you may end up being frustrate. Better to set small, achievable goals and when you achieve them you move up the ladder.

Hone your skills

Indicate the tools you need. How do you get there? What skills do you need? How do you build them?

After you have clearly decided this, you get to the next stage:

Take action

The best plan has no value unless it is put into action. Start to follow your plan. Do the things you have said you need to do to succeed.

“Action is the foundational key to success.” Pablo Picasso.

Of course, action may not always be easy to take. At times, it will be difficult. What do you do?

Make an effort

You will meet with obstacles on your way. Find a way to overcome them. Do not allow any obstacle to stop you. Always find a way to go through or round it.

If it is painful. Persevere! If you fall, get up and continue. If success is hard to come, persist.

Ignore discouraging messages

You may hear lots of discouraging messages. Many people may come telling you to give up; that you are wasting your time; that you will not succeed. All they want is to discourage you. Don’t listen to them. Don’t listen to the discouraging voice coming from inside of you.

“History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats.” B.C. Forbes

As Catherine Pulsifer tells us and rightly so, “Thousands of successful people did not achieve success in their first try, but they were not discouraged. They picked themselves up and went back at it with an even stronger, single minded tenacity to achieve their goal.”

Your action will not always bring the results you want. Remember that “Edison failed 10.000 times before he made the electric light” (Napoleon Hill).

In one of his books, Norman Vincent Peale advises against discouragement, citing those people who get discouraged and quit because the going is hard, just to realize that had they stayed on they would have found the result they wanted.

So “Do not be discouraged if your plans do not succeed the first time. No one learns to walk by taking only one step.” Catherine Pulsifer.

To put it another way, persist.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.” (Calvin Coolidge)

Never give up. Keep at it. Persist!

Determination is the key

We all know this. We chanted this when we were young. Determination is the key to success. There is sense in this. It is hard to beat a person who is determined.

Hard work

You have to work as hard as you can. Toil and sweat. It has been said and requoted countless times, that the price if success is hard work. What made Barack Obama the 44th President of the United States? Hard work is one of them.

Ever heard about Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian if all time? Hard work.

Tiger Woods became famous thanks to hard work. Name any great figure and look behind. They attribute their success to hard: football superstar, Pele; former First Lady of the US, Michelle Obama, all time scientist and all inventor, Thomas A. Edison.

“Success is no accident. It is hard work… ” Hard work is what moulds champions.

It takes courage to do many of the things that will set you apart from the crowd. It takes courage to deviate from the norm. Yes, it takes courage to do it differently. You must be ready to muster the courage to do it differently if it becomes necessary.

Focus and singleness of purpose

One reason many of us do not go far in life is we disperse our efforts. When you spread out the light that comes from a torch light, it doesn’t go far. When you focus it, it goes very far. It is the same thing with human effort. Focus your effort so that it takes you far.

If you lack discipline, you cannot do much. It is discipline that enables up to do the right thing at the right time and to be in the right place when you should be.

Developing yourself

From all that we have said you can see that the way to get to the top is to develop your potential as best you can.

Your focus should be to bring out the best version of yourself. You cannot be the best you that you can be and not be at the top.

Build the qualities you need to function well as a human being: self-control, self confidence, determination, positive mental attitude, persistence, faith, integrity, sense of justice, human heart.

Belief in God and his divine guidance. You are not alone.

What is your gift? Which us your area of strength? You must keep learning and honing your skills.

Surround yourself with positive minded and successful people who will contribute to your success.

Limit your commitments and learn to say ‘no’ to the things that don’t help you.

Look on the bright side of life. Never on the dark side.

You were born into this world for great exploits. You have been well equipped with what you need to get to the top. You have no excuse not to he there.

What is required of you is that you become aware of your destiny and potential in you to achieve it and do the best you can to do so.

Be ready to learn and get help along the way. Don’t give in to discouragement and don’t fear to fail. As someone has rightly said, failures are pillars of success.

What will it look like if you become a legend like some of those we have cited in thus post such as Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Michael Phelps, Pele and Thomas A. Edison?

Of course, if they could, so too can you if you stop selling yourself short.

Are you ready to do what it takes for you to find your place at the top in your community? Your company? Your country? The world?
