Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how [strong] the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” (Matthew 14: 27 – 30).
What has touched me
The phrase that has touched me most is “do not be afraid.”
I often fear to put my total trust in Jesus. I fear that trust in the him could fail me. Hence, there are things that I should do for God, but I do not do them because of fear.
This passage tells me that I do not have any reason to fear; that I should take courage.
From this text, I see that when Peter fixed his eyes on Jesus, fear left him and he was able to do the incredible thing of walking on water. But when he removed his eyes from Jesus, he began to sink.
I resolve to fix my eyes on Jesus at all times and not on the obstacles on my way.
Word of life
My word of life is fear. I shall remove fear from my life. I shall take courage in faith in the Lord.
Lord Jesus Christ, when Peter fixed his eyes on you, he was able to walk on water; but when he started looking at the water, instead of fixing on you, he began to sink. I pray you to help me and all your followers to fix their eyes on you so as to have courage and not to fear to follow you. Amen!
