OUR BIBLE SHARING TEXT FOR TODAY
Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples,
saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses.
Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice.
They tie up heavy burdens (hard to carry) and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them.
All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.
They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues,
greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation ‘Rabbi.’
As for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.
Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven.
Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one master, the Messiah.v
The greatest among you must be your servant.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
WHAT HAS TOUCHED ME
What has touched me is the phrase “they preach but they do not practise.”
This has touched me very much because of I tell people to do things which I don’t do myself. For instance, I tell people to make sure they pray the Angelus at certain times of the day but some of those times, come when I bury myself in other engagements and only realize it later.
I resolve to start today to always marry action to my words. What I say I will do, I will do. I will teach more by example than by preaching.
WORD OF LIFE
My word of life is humble. I shall be humble throughout this day.
God, O Loving Father,
I pray you to help me today to live my word of life which is to be humble.
I also pray that you may grant me the grace to teach by example; to teach what 8 do and do what I teach.
Through Christ our Lord Amen!
