BIBLE SHARING TEXT FOR TODAY
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said, ‘the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.’ Then he gave the disciples strict orders not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
WHAT HAS TOUCHED ME PERSONALLY
The verse that has touched me personally is this: “You are Peter and on this rock, I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it.”
It touches me because from this verse, I see that the church is built on a rock foundation which means a solid foundation. I also see that nothing can ever shake the Church. Hence, those who attack the Church only waste their time as nothing can shake it. In my understanding, Peter is a rock because of his knowledge and faith in Jesus. I see that knowing and believing in Jesus leads to happiness and other rewards.
I resolve to know Jesus as Peter did. This means I will continue to learn more and more about him and pray for the grace to know exactly who he is.
WORD OF LIFE
My word of life is ROCK. I will try to be a rock in my faith. It is not an easy thing but I will do my best to know Jesus, pray and live as Jesus wants me to. I will pray for grace to have a faith that is as strong as a rock.
Ever living God, thank you for today which is a great gift to me. Grant me the grace of more faith in you. May my faith in you be strong as a rock.
This is my prayer, through Christ our Lord, Amen!
