Jesus said to his disciples: “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into.
So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.
Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so.
Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property.
But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is long delayed,’
and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards,
the servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour
and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”

What has touched me in today’s gospel is the phrase “be prepared”. I hear Jesus speaking directly to me and asking me to be prepared.
This means so much to me because I have realized that if Jesus were to come now I would not be prepared. I often make the mistake of thinking that death cannot come to me now. Reading this call from Jesus, reminds me that anybody can be called to God at any time. He says “at an hour you do not expect, the son of man will come.” And I ask myself what will happen if I am called now. I see the imperative of being ready.

I resolve today to try on a daily basis to be prepared to travel to my creator if he happens to call me to come at any time.

My word of life is prepared. I will prepare myself today and everyday through prayer and reconciliation, for any eventuality. I shall not allow myself to be taken unawares.

Help me O Lord, to be prepared at all times so that if you come at any time, I should find my place in your eternal kingdom.
This is my humble prayer, through Christ our Lord Amen!
