Low Octane

Certain formulas just make sense, as in the Hi-Performance engines of my younger days. We raced muscle cars every Friday or Saturday night if the weather cooperated on those days. Low octane fuel was for little less-powered engines. But, if we wanted great strength and power, high octane gave us a much better performance. Our health and well-being run on the same performance factors, and it’s equated to the relationship we have with God.

I’m sure some of us have observed people who sat in the back of a church and appeared as though they slept in their clothes. Some believers come to take up space and really don’t take part in the songs of praise. But in the front pews of God’s church, sat the brilliant Christians, praising the Lord, and magnified by God’s glow. Those beautifully dressed believers in the front rows, with their hands held high to receive God’s word… need I say more? They are full of high octane. Then, I examined those of ill-faded color, dull complexions, blemished, and disheveled, and it was apparent their spirituality may be (or was) filled with low octane. Their engine’s performance could be directly related to the quality of octane they put into their bodies.

“If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” 1 Corinthians 3:17

Though a remarkable difference in the congregation is clear, there appears to be a more profound correlation not so noticeable. My theory is purely hypothetical, so I did some research to discover the accuracy of my prognosis.

“You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.” Exodus 23:25

Jesus proved in His healing work that it is God’s will we have good health. Many examples in scriptures reveal the miracles of Jesus healing those with ailments. Our health is the inevitable result of knowing God and living a life filled with His love and direction. Let’s look at a few of these examples.

My wife’s mother was a devout, God-fearing Christian who lived her life by God’s commandments. When she passed away at ninety-five years old, she barely had a wrinkle on her face. She glowed in God’s spirit, and He took her from us peacefully, without pain and struggle. I have a high school friend who has not had a natural heartbeat since 1995. Pacemakers have been the source of her existence, but she praises the Lord for her health and life. Looking at her today, she is the epitome of health – glowing skin, smiling ear-to-ear, and shiny, beautiful hair. She runs on high octane and lives every day to the fullest. God bless her heart!

On a more notable scale, the evangelist, Billy Graham, was ninety-nine years old when he quietly passed away. He struggled with cancer and eventually died of pneumonia, but until the day he died, he looked healthy. He had God’s glow of high octane. The late Bishop Eddie Long, head of one of the largest mega-churches in the U.S., is another example of one who passed away from cancer. He maintained his youthful appearance and high octane looks until the day he left us.

Our health is a gift to all of God’s children. We can overcome disease and sickness, in some sense, by living a faithful life to Christ. Now do not misinterpret my words to mean we will never get sick or recover from terminal conditions if we live on high octane. God doesn’t promise us life with no pain or sickness. But one has to wonder… why are those with spiritually low octane, appear not so healthy, yet those who run on high octane rarely show any illnesses? Pay close attention to those around you who are suffering ailments and tell me if my observation isn’t correct.

The principles of well-being are not only our mental health but the condition of our physical health too. It’s simple – God is the highest octane you can receive for your body. Where can you get it? We obtain it through prayer and living a godly life. The more the Lord resonates in your life, the better you will look and feel. Let the love of God be Your octane bust!

Useful Health Tips

The human body consists of multiple organs that makes up different organ systems, all the organs work together to provide proper functioning.

Unfortunately if any of the organ system malfunctions, the effect can be observed on the entire body. The following certain factors contributes to the destruction of our bodies.

Unhealthy Eating Habits: unhealthy eating habits play an important role in destroying the human body. In today’s hectic world, almost everyone prefers fast food over healthy food.

More than half of us would prefer a delicious slice of pizza loaded with extra cheese over the same homemade food, right? But we do not realize the harmful impact it can have on our bodies. It causes so many problems, including obesity diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases.

Fast foods are far inferior in nutrition but high in sugar, salt and fats. They have high trans fats, therefore raising the amount of bad cholesterol or LDL and lowering the good cholesterol or HDL in the body.

This promotes several cardiovascular disorders. Fried foods can also cause acne. Therefore the daily consumption of fast food is harmful to the body.

Irregular Sleeping Patterns: irregularities in sleeping habits are very harmful to our bodies. 7-9 hours of sleep every night is required by the body for proper functioning. Lack of sleep can have several side effects on the body.

It impairs our cognitive abilities, learning, concentration and thought processes. It also reduces memory storage. Sharp wave ripples that cause memory consolidation occur during deep sleep.

Therefore, lack of sleep can cause impairment in memory consolidation. Lack of sleep also increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stroke and even death. It can also increase the process of aging.

The protein collagen is responsible for providing elasticity to the skin. Lack of sleep releases cortisol that damages the protein collagen and our skin. Hence, we should go to bed early to get proper sleep.

Sedentary Lifestyle: this is a lifestyle that involves little or no physical activity.

Elimination of physical activity from our lives can have immense adverse effects. Exercise causes the release of endorphins, also known as the happy hormones that reduce pain and induce the feeling of pleasure or happiness. Exercise is also important to gain strength, power and endurance.

Physical inactivity contributes to so various health related problems, including stress, depression, heart disease, especially coronary heart diseases. It also causes an increase in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Daily exercise is an important way of preventing our bodies from being damaged.

Cigarette Smoking: cigarette smoking has adverse effects on the human body; the smoke contains various harmful chemicals that get deposited in our lungs, therefore causing different lung diseases including bronchitis, COPD, emphysema, and lung cancer.

Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, mouth and throat cancer. Apart from lung diseases, it can also cause anxiety, heart diseases, infertility, diabetes, blood cancer and pancreatic cancer.

Smoking should be strictly avoided in all circumstances because it can severely affect our body in negative ways.

If your food is wrong medicine is of no use and if your food is right medicine is of no need.

A Harmful Or Healthy Social Comparison?

In my previous blog “Understand Your Worth – How You Value Yourself,” I talked about the topic of how much the society places value on outward appearances when defining one’s success, whereas little consideration is given to the inner values of a person, and that certain outward appearances of success can trigger a need within you to compare yourself to others.

This outward type of social comparison is often painful and rarely triggers any real change in our lives, because it makes us feel defeated right from the start – mainly due to fear and insecurity. It’s of no surprise that we live with different paradoxes, with the most common one is failing to see our own value, while simultaneously thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought.

Though social comparisons are often seen as unhealthy, yet comparing ourselves to others can be a powerful life tool in itself. The difference lies in your motive: Are you comparing out of fear and insecurity, or out of the desire to improve?

The Harmful Type Of Social Comparison

This is when you compare out of fear and insecurity, in other words, you want what belongs to others.

There are plenty of examples, such as getting mad when someone gets the promotion instead of you, has a nicer suit and car, or it can even be a talent that you wish you had. These strong feelings that you deserve more can lead you to feel that you will never be good enough, and push you in making false assumptions that you deserve as much or more then what the other person has. This fear will only lead to great discontentment, which in turn will mature into bitterness.

Bitterness may cause you to seek faults with this person and look for reasons why they don’t deserve whatever it is that they have. Then, your thoughts start to lean towards an idea that you are never good enough so you might as well give up. You feel that you can never be enough so you do the bare minimum to keep yourself afloat. When bitterness becomes the core of one’s existence, there can be no happiness.

The Healthy Type Of Social Comparison

When was the last time you felt inspired by watching someone giving a great presentation? Or an interviewee handling him- or herself well in a tricky question and you found yourself saying, “Wow, I’ll try it that way next time.”

Watching others is one way of how we learn. If I hadn’t seen great presenters, like Simon Sinek, I’d probably still be using PowerPoint with boring bullet-point slides. Whether it’s watching how people handle themselves at work, or observing another parent managing a playground tantrum, comparing their methods to yours opens your mind to new possibilities.

From my personal experience, I look in the mirror each morning knowing that I am falling short of my potential. This may keep me humble, but the vision of people accomplishing great things is changing that image in the mirror for the better. While I’m not fearing or fretting, I am also not content to stay the way I am. I hope that’s the same for you.

How To Make Healthy Social Comparisons

Firstly, be conscious of who you compare yourself with. Don’t choose just one person, instead, choose multiple people that inspire you to become better which match with or surpass your character and judgement. Ask yourself how they would look at certain situations and solve them. This way, you can look at more options and be able to make the best decision possible.

Secondly, watch and listen to the world and understand what is going on around you. We simply write off people that we don’t agree with, whether it be politicians or religions. What a mistake this is! Take time to learn from all sources. Listen to others. You may never agree with them but something in what they are doing is a teachable moment. You learn what you might do, but you also learn what you would never do. Either way, you win because you have learned from it.

Finally, make a habit of reading. Sometimes, I walk through the aisles of book stores, not to buy anything, but to read the titles of the books to get inspiration from them. Also, reading blog posts, book summaries, watching videos, and taking courses are all means that gives us a healthy visual to compare ourselves and inspire us to do more. It’s time to stop making unhealthy comparisons with others and choose the path for yourself.

May 31 st World ‘No-Tobacco Day’

No tobacco day

Every year, on May 31, WHO and partners around the world celebrate World No-Tobacco Day, dedicated to highlight the health risks associated with the consumption of tobacco and promote effective policies to reduce consumption.

The tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced, killing more than 7 million people a year. More than 6 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 890 000 are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.

Miracles, My Love, Lie at the Foot of the Rainbow

The shadows lingered from a restless night, but I tried to be positive as God’s light rejuvenated my soul. I listened quietly as my wife dreamed, and I tried to adjust myself to fit into her position. I kissed her soothing body and prayed over her tragic health news this week. Sometimes in life, you wish you could put the world in reverse and take back past mistakes of bad decisions. We wasted too many years apart before finding each other again. Now, I’m left with little time to make up for my stupidity, and guilt haunts the “what if” category.

I’m reminded, reverently, we live our lives in God’s perfect timing. Our past life experiences are only to prepare us for the future. I crawled out of the covers. It was a new day, and the sun blessed the flowers; the birds chirped, and that which lied upon God’s planet came to His glory. I would be a speck of smudge on the earth’s surface if it weren’t for my faith. All things happen for a reason, and it is only God’s choice. I try to stay strong while our friends rally around us to rescue the brokenness of my will. It’s like kids on a little league team – everyone jumps out of the dugout and runs to help their fallen comrade. It’s a wonderful feeling when you’re lying face down in the dirt, and the whole team arrives to lift you out of the pain.

Tears have grown now as my appreciation outweighs the love which continues to pour into us. How can I sincerely thank all our friends, family, and followers, except to pray God’s glory will shine on their kindness? The Lord watches over His flock, no matter the situation. The sheep are gathered in herds, waiting to be fed once again. Christ, our Shephard will feed the hungry who are gathered in His name.

But, thoughts turn to my beloved. I find my strength in God, for I must be a pillar for her to lean on in this time of distress. So, I take her hand to rededicate, before God, my deepest love for her. I pray, in the name of Jesus, I will give her my all for His love is all we need now. We will walk together in the valley of the elms and take refuge in God’s shade. Our mighty Savior will bring us through this, just like our many other scenarios. Miracles, my love, lie at the foot of the rainbow. ~~www.danabicksauthor.com~~

5 Tips For Great Early Morning Workouts – by Shubham Verma

Here are 5 tips to improve your early morning workouts, along with the benefits of early morning workouts, and a quick 30 minute workout you can do with no equipment.

Why Early Morning Workouts Are Great

Exercise in the morning provides a wide range of benefits that offer physical and mental gratification:
Strength training exercise can boost metabolism for up to 48 hours so doing your workout in the AM is a great way to jumpstart your metabolism. This elevated metabolism will ensure you are burning calories throughout the day.

Exercise also promotes endorphins in the brain, which can elevate your mood and start your day off on a positive note. More so, your sense of accomplishment from knowing you have your workout done before you even start your workday will elevate your mood and keep you from stressing over it later if something unexpected arises. According to research, exercise significantly increases mental capacity and exercising in the A.M. can allow you to harness that increased brainpower.

5 Tips For Better Early Morning Workouts

1. Pre-Plan Your Pre-Workout Meal

If you find that you have more energy eating something before your workout, planning your pre-workout meal the night before can be helpful. Research has shown more calories tend to be burned with some fuel in your body before a workout. However, each individual knows his own body best, so finding out what works best for you is essential.

Eating a small to medium sized meal may provide ample energy for your workout without the bloated feeling that comes with larger meals that can affect performance. A great way to kick start your daily meal plan is to make a shake the night before. A healthy pre-made smoothie is versatile and can provide ample fuel to power you through a workout.

Suggested ingredients:
• Plain Greek yogurt
• Berries
• Chia seeds,
• Whey protein
• Almond Milk

2. Go To Bed Earlier

Human sleep cycles follow a daily cycle called circadian rhythms. Using an alarm clock, establishing meal times, and even routine workout times are all cues that reset our rhythms. People who consistently exercise in the morning teach their body to be most ready for exercise at that time of day.

Go to bed 30-45 minutes earlier so you can stay on your normal sleep schedule. This will ensure the 30-45 minutes it will take you to get your warmup and workout done in the morning won’t come at the expense of adequate rest.

Research also suggests that morning exercise improves sleep so getting into a good routine of an earlier bed time might not be an issue. Exercise in the morning can help to set the body clock for a day of activity and a night of sleep, while exercise at night can potentially push back the sleep part of the sleep-wake cycle. In one recent experiment women who exercised in the morning averaged a 70% better nights sleep versus non exercisers.

3. Set Everything Up The Night Before

Whether its pushup blocks, a jump rope, bands, or your workout attire, make sure everything is laid out before you go to bed so you won’t be scrambling the next morning. This will save you crucial moments and give yourself the peace of mind that you don’t have to rush your workout. Knowing you have made sufficient preparations will ensure a worry free sleep and stress free morning.

Another great option is to create a new playlist the night before or start your workout with a new song you really enjoy and look forward to hearing. This will help you get out of bed in the morning and get those energy levels fired up early in the morning.

4. Perform A Longer Warm-Up

Your body temperature is naturally lower in the morning and the last thing you want to do is open yourself up for injury. When you begin to exercise, your body undergoes a number of changes such as an increased blood flow, increase respiration rate, and an increased amount of oxygen delivered to muscle cells. In order to ensure these bodily changes respond properly you should gradually prepare your body by performing an adequate warm-up.

Benefits of a solid warm-up:

  • Prepares your nervous system for the impending exertion of exercise
  • Heightens your mental acuity
  • Loosens up your joints and muscles for the prevention of injury
  • Allows your heart to gradually adjust to the increased activity, thereby increasing the blood flow and sending the proper amount of oxygen and nutrients to your body’s cells.

Perform at least 5-10 minutes of muscle activation and dynamic flexibility movements to get your blood pumping and mentally prepared for you morning workout.

5. Start With Exercises You Enjoy And Recruit A Partner

You’ll be more likely to get out of bed and into your workout if you perform exercises you enjoy. Whether it’s a brisk run, yoga sessions, or a bike ride, perform a morning workout you appreciate to ensure you will stick to a routine and not come to dread that morning alarm. Recruiting a partner can also help with consistency. A pre-arranged workout time with a partner will force you out of bed and take the option of “going back to sleep” out of the equation completely.

Sample 30-Minute Early Morning Workout

The following workout should take you only 30 minutes and require no equipment. It’s a great option if you are on the road on a business trip, or don’t have time to run to the gym.

Warmup (5-10 minutes)

Warmup 1: 2 set of 15 reps Windmills

Warmup 2: 2 set of 15 reps back bridge

Warmup 3: 2 set of 15 reps pushup planks

Warm up 4: 2- 3 minutes of jump rope

Toughest job on earth

Toughest job on earth

What is the toughest job on earth ?

Guess and tell me.

I am sure you can not.

Googling gives you billion answers in nanosecond !

Nothing to compare as to what I am going to tell !!!

If you are eager to know , just answer the following question.

How to tell some one that their breath stinks without hurting their feelings ?

1. When. 2. Where and 3. how to say nice words at the same time stressing the point.

Many times we have seen relationship getting worse when somebody is frank.

Sadly we even avoid the person while in conversation.

And even dread meeting the person.

Or you think it is rude even to give hints etc.

Or just forget everything and continue conversation with the person and just move on….

And quite a few with bad breath go into depression and tend to avoid people or remain in isolation.

Any members ,aware of any Etiquette…if at all it is there ??

Is the ‘Mint’ only solution to overcome this problem ?

That is the reason the World celebrates ‘World Oral Health day’ March 20 and to-day is that day !

Who doesn’t love sparkling smile with lovely set of teeth ?

Why not each and every one of us see the Dentist regularly (once in 6 months) as required.

Dental Check Up

What are the minimum things we are supposed to do regularly ?

1.Start the dental care for the kids as soon as teeth start forming.2.Brush twice a day,by using proper technique and never forget flossing daily. If you are not aware of flossing take help of you tube or your Dentist.3.Change the tooth-brush once in 3 or 4 months.4.Before going to bed rinse the mouth with anti bacterial solution.5.Forget smoking, tobacco and all other related stuff.6.Eat healthy diet and I need not stress how important this is.7.Consult Dentist once in 6 months.

Ok.Now I come to some common dental problems we face because of our irresponsible habits.

Of course ,these things you already know.

1.BAD breath…this is how I started my topic. 2.Tooth decay.3.Gum disease,4.Tooth sensitivity.5.Oral cancer.6.Of course who enjoys your unpleasant & un-attractive smile ?

Members suggestions/ opinions appreciated.
