Low Octane

Certain formulas just make sense, as in the Hi-Performance engines of my younger days. We raced muscle cars every Friday or Saturday night if the weather cooperated on those days. Low octane fuel was for little less-powered engines. But, if we wanted great strength and power, high octane gave us a much better performance. Our health and well-being run on the same performance factors, and it’s equated to the relationship we have with God.

I’m sure some of us have observed people who sat in the back of a church and appeared as though they slept in their clothes. Some believers come to take up space and really don’t take part in the songs of praise. But in the front pews of God’s church, sat the brilliant Christians, praising the Lord, and magnified by God’s glow. Those beautifully dressed believers in the front rows, with their hands held high to receive God’s word… need I say more? They are full of high octane. Then, I examined those of ill-faded color, dull complexions, blemished, and disheveled, and it was apparent their spirituality may be (or was) filled with low octane. Their engine’s performance could be directly related to the quality of octane they put into their bodies.

“If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” 1 Corinthians 3:17

Though a remarkable difference in the congregation is clear, there appears to be a more profound correlation not so noticeable. My theory is purely hypothetical, so I did some research to discover the accuracy of my prognosis.

“You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.” Exodus 23:25

Jesus proved in His healing work that it is God’s will we have good health. Many examples in scriptures reveal the miracles of Jesus healing those with ailments. Our health is the inevitable result of knowing God and living a life filled with His love and direction. Let’s look at a few of these examples.

My wife’s mother was a devout, God-fearing Christian who lived her life by God’s commandments. When she passed away at ninety-five years old, she barely had a wrinkle on her face. She glowed in God’s spirit, and He took her from us peacefully, without pain and struggle. I have a high school friend who has not had a natural heartbeat since 1995. Pacemakers have been the source of her existence, but she praises the Lord for her health and life. Looking at her today, she is the epitome of health – glowing skin, smiling ear-to-ear, and shiny, beautiful hair. She runs on high octane and lives every day to the fullest. God bless her heart!

On a more notable scale, the evangelist, Billy Graham, was ninety-nine years old when he quietly passed away. He struggled with cancer and eventually died of pneumonia, but until the day he died, he looked healthy. He had God’s glow of high octane. The late Bishop Eddie Long, head of one of the largest mega-churches in the U.S., is another example of one who passed away from cancer. He maintained his youthful appearance and high octane looks until the day he left us.

Our health is a gift to all of God’s children. We can overcome disease and sickness, in some sense, by living a faithful life to Christ. Now do not misinterpret my words to mean we will never get sick or recover from terminal conditions if we live on high octane. God doesn’t promise us life with no pain or sickness. But one has to wonder… why are those with spiritually low octane, appear not so healthy, yet those who run on high octane rarely show any illnesses? Pay close attention to those around you who are suffering ailments and tell me if my observation isn’t correct.

The principles of well-being are not only our mental health but the condition of our physical health too. It’s simple – God is the highest octane you can receive for your body. Where can you get it? We obtain it through prayer and living a godly life. The more the Lord resonates in your life, the better you will look and feel. Let the love of God be Your octane bust!

The human body consists of multiple organs that makes up different organ systems, all the organs work together to provide proper functioning.

Unhealthy Eating Habits: unhealthy eating habits play an important role in destroying the human body. In today’s hectic world, almost everyone prefers fast food over healthy food.

More than half of us would prefer a delicious slice of pizza loaded with extra cheese over the same homemade food, right?But we do not realize the harmful impact it can have on our bodies. It causes so many problems, including obesity diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases.

Fast foods are far inferior in nutrition but high in sugar, salt and fats. They have high trans fats, therefore raising the amount of bad cholesterol or LDL and lowering the good cholesterol or HDL in the body.

This promotes several cardiovascular disorders. Fried foods can also cause acne. Therefore the daily consumption of fast food is harmful to the body.

Irregular Sleeping Patterns: irregularities in sleeping habits are very harmful to our bodies. 7-9 hours of sleep every night is required by the body for proper functioning. Lack of sleep can have several side effects on the body.

It impairs our cognitive abilities, learning, concentration and thought processes. It also reduces memory storage. Sharp wave ripples that cause memory consolidation occur during deep sleep.

Therefore, lack of sleep can cause impairment in memory consolidation. Lack of sleep also increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stroke and even death. It can also increase the process of aging.

The protein collagen is responsible for providing elasticity to the skin. Lack of sleep releases cortisol that damages the protein collagen and our skin. Hence, we should go to bed early to get proper sleep.

Sedentary Lifestyle: this is a lifestyle that involves little or no physical activity.

Elimination of physical activity from our lives can have immense adverse effects. Exercise causes the release of endorphins, also known as the happy hormones that reduce pain and induce the feeling of pleasure or happiness. Exercise is also important to gain strength, power and endurance.

Physical inactivity contributes to so various health related problems, including stress, depression, heart disease, especially coronary heart diseases. It also causes an increase in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Daily exercise is an important way of preventing our bodies from being damaged.

Cigarette Smoking: cigarette smoking has adverse effects on the human body; the smoke contains various harmful chemicals that get deposited in our lungs, therefore causing different lung diseases including bronchitis, COPD, emphysema, and lung cancer.

Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, mouth and throat cancer. Apart from lung diseases, it can also cause anxiety, heart diseases, infertility, diabetes, blood cancer and pancreatic cancer.

Smoking should be strictly avoided in all circumstances because it can severely affect our body in negative ways.


If your food is wrong medicine is of no use and if your food is right medicine is of no need.

MEDITATION TECHNIQUES- BENEFITS, AND A BEGINNER’S HOW-TO

Meditation is an approach to training the mind, similar to the way that fitness is an approach to training the body.
Here is an introduction to the styles and benefits of regular practice, plus a lesson on how to meditate.

CONCENTRATION MEDITATION

Concentration meditation involves focusing on a single point. This could entail following the breath, repeating a single word or mantra, staring at a candle flame, listening to a repetitive gong, or counting beads on a mala. Since focusing the mind is challenging, a beginner might meditate for only a few minutes and then work up to longer durations.

In this form of meditation, you simply refocus your awareness on the chosen object of attention each time you notice your mind wandering. Rather than pursuing random thoughts, you simply let them go. Through this process, your ability to concentrate improves.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

Mindfulness meditation encourages the practitioner to observe wandering thoughts as they drift through the mind. The intention is not to get involved with the thoughts or to judge them, but simply to be aware of each mental note as it arises.

Through mindfulness meditation, you can see how your thoughts and feelings tend to move in particular patterns. Over time, you can become more aware of the human tendency to quickly judge an experience as good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant. With practice, an inner balance develops.

In some schools of meditation, students practice a combination of concentration and mindfulness. Many disciplines call for stillness — to a greater or lesser degree, depending on the teacher.

BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

If relaxation is not the goal of meditation, it is often a result. In the 1970s, Herbert Benson, MD, a researcher at Harvard University Medical School, coined the term “relaxation response” after conducting research on people who practiced transcendental meditation. The relaxation response, in Benson’s words, is “an opposite, involuntary response that causes a reduction in the activity of the sympathetic nervous system.”

Since then, studies on the relaxation response have documented the following short-term benefits to the nervous system:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improved blood circulation
  • Lower heart rate
  • Less perspiration
  • Slower respiratory rate
  • Less anxiety
  • Lower blood cortisol levels
  • More feelings of well-being
  • Less stress
  • Deeper relaxation

HOW TO MEDITATE: SIMPLE MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS

This meditation exercise is an excellent introduction to meditation techniques.

  1. Sit or lie comfortably. You may even want to invest in a meditation chair or cushion.
  2. Close your eyes. We recommend using one of our Cooling Eye Masks or Restorative Eye Pillows if lying down.
  3. Make no effort to control the breath; simply breathe naturally.
  4. Focus your attention on the breath and on how the body moves with each inhalation and exhalation. Notice the movement of your body as you breathe. Observe your chest, shoulders, rib cage, and belly. Simply focus your attention on your breath without controlling its pace or intensity. If your mind wanders, return your focus back to your breath.

The other day one of our exceptionally brilliant readers wondered, how the time is running so fast,we are in the middle of January,still we are dreaming….as if we celebrated new year just yesterday…is this not scarring? Life is moving so fast, refusing to wait !
I felt … it’s true

And shortly…the spring will run into summer and Summer chasing Fall and Fall merging with Winter in no time and soon we celebrate Christmas and eagerly waiting for the safe delivery of 2020 and in between many will be in touch with the Creator…
Then the thought of why can’t we live longer lingered in my mind!
Yes.Why not ?
All of you know life is awesome !

If you ask ,each one gives their own many reasons as to why they love to live longer.Very few say they want to die earlier.

Don’t you think there is so much of unfulfilled wishes to be full filled?
There is so much to do,so much to see,so much to enjoy,so much to learn,so much to discuss,so many new People to meet,new friends,new thoughts,new experiences….
…..oh my life ! My dear life…..and you think just 70-80 yrs of life is sufficient ?

There won’t be negative feelings or sadness or sorrow if one were to live forever.Of course ones health should be good,but this is possible as science is advancing and most probably in 2100 death can be delayed indefinitely.

But why you don’t want to die ?

It’s very simple my friend.Death means, all your taste for enjoying the good life gone.You miss the beauty of universe.You miss your near and dear.you miss unfinished jobs.you miss, loving your sweetheart.

OK.But Why do you wish to live forever ?

I have an answer.

Modern age is better than Iron age.Iron age was better than bronze age.Bronze age was better than stone age.
As things become better and better ,we wish to live longer.We start inventing things where in death can be delayed.As technology advances,they day may not be far,where death can become optional.

What is the present scenario ?

  1. Living forever is not possible, but living longer is possible (quora)
  2. Eat & Drink Healthy
  3. Have sound mind and you can take correct decisions.
  4. Have a good social life.Have limited number of friends,who value the meaning of life just like you.
  5. Remember not to possess anger & Ego
  6. When you get up in the morning,first thing you do is to remember God and express your gratitude ,since you are breathing and lucky to be alive. 153,424 people won’t see another tomorrow ( WHO)

The Law Of Attraction – You Attract What You Are

The Law of Attraction, I have been fascinated by it for a long time and I rarely come across people who are fully aware of how much the Law of Attraction impacts their day to day life. Regardless of when we do things consciously or subconsciously, every bit of our existence, we are acting as human magnets sending vibrational frequency out of our thoughts and emotions and attracting back more of what we have sent out.

Unfortunately, many of us are blind to this potential that rests within us – making it all too easy to leave our thoughts and emotions unchecked. This sends out the wrong thoughts and attracts more unwanted emotions and events into our lives.

Having said this, I’ve learned that the Law of Attraction to be true after experiencing personal and hearing others’ failures and successes.

Is The Law Of Attraction Even Real?

The Law Of Attraction can be seen throughout history, which was first thought to have been taught to people by the immortal Buddha: “What you have become is what you have thought.” There is an age-old belief among spiritualists that you draw to your life what you put out.

Recently, inspiring writers such as Deepak Chopra, Esther and Jerry Hicks and Wayne Dyer have shed light on these ideas by introducing three books: The Law of Attraction, Ask and It is Given and “The Power of Intention.”

ThenThe Secret by Rhonda Byrne, brought together many thought leaders in this world and spread the experience of different individuals supporting this principle. In “The Secret” we learned that this is based on scientific principles referring to quantum physics supporting this argument: “That you will attract to yourself whatever you put out.”

Energy, Vibration, Chemistry

“Like attracts like”, this is stated in the law of attraction. All attractions are based on energy, vibration, chemistry, or whatever you may call it, it’s all the same thing. You send out a frequency, and it attracts someone or a situation of the same frequency.

People with a high frequency, people who love and value themselves, are happy people who vibrate on a high frequency and induces a positive response in others. While people with a low frequency, people who are insecure and self-abandoning, induce feelings of anxiety in others if we ourselves are anxious.

People who are positive, open, giving, caring and kind to themselves and others are not attracted to people who are negative, closed, and needy of approval and attention. While no one intentionally seeks out someone who is closed, negative and needy, however, if this is you, this is what you will attract into your life.

Attraction And Your Level Of Emotional Health

I hear this so often: “I’m a good person, but I keep meeting the wrong people in my life”, followed up with “Am I doing something wrong?”

When you learn to value yourself and take responsibility for your feelings,  you’ll be drawn to people who also value themselves and want to share love rather than get love. You will no longer end up with someone who judges, blames or sees them self as a victim. You will just not find this person attractive, as they are not at your level of emotional health.

Of course, this means you need to take action if you want to increase your level of emotional health, of which some are learning:

  • To be present in your body instead of stuck in your mind avoiding your emotions;
  • To acknowledge what your feelings are telling you rather than protecting against them with various addictions and self-judgments;
  • To take action in your own behalf rather than expecting others to do this for you.

Underlying all of these ideas is the idea of connection – we are connected within and without. What we think and feel affects not only how we will act but how others will act as well. The depth of our feelings and actions is a critical variable in “attracting” what we want in our lives.

Tips to reach your ideal weight.

In my last two posts  “ my learning experience” and “tips to drink more water”, I talked about the lessons that the illness taught me and how I developed the habit of drinking water. Today, I want to talk about another important topic which was the result of my recovery process i.e. Weight loss.

“Weight loss/weight gain” is a very sensitive topic in today’s world. People are coming up with their ideal weight goals, making meal plans, exercising and adopting a healthy lifestyle to achieve their goals.

Like everybody else, I also set my ideal weight goal and kept planning about how to reach my goal. Meanwhile, I fell sick and during this recovery period, I lost 7 kgs. People known to me said that loosing weight was an obvious part of any illness, as we tend to lose our appetite and we become more careful about our health. But, I never lost my appetite and was hungry at the right times. Then how did I manage to lose those kgs?

So here are few things that I did to recover from the illness which eventually lead to lose of weight.

  1. Drinking lots of water – As you all know by now, I drank lots of water during this time as it was the only cure for the illness. I had a mix of normal water and warm water during this entire period.  Drinking normal water continuously the whole day kept me full and hence reduced my appetite there by reducing my food intake. The warm water helped to burn excess fat and thus helped to reduce those extra kilos.
  2. Quantity of food intake – My quantity of food intake reduced drastically. Initially, I used to eat just one slice of bread or two dosas or one roti. I was asked to reduce the quantity of food intake as my body couldn’t handle more food at a time because of the illness. I never felt hungry with the reduced quantity because I was drinking lots of water and other drinks like tea etc.
  3. No junk food – It was an obvious thing that I had to be very careful about what I was eating and hence stopped junk food completely.
  4. Oil-free, Spice-free food – I was having food, free of oil and spices. So I didn’t have any oily food during this period. Though very little oil was used for cooking but I didn’t have any fried, oily or spicy foods. The food felt bland at times but still it tasted better because I knew I was eating healthy.
  5. Sweets and ice-creams – I didn’t have sweets and ice-creams during this period. Though this was not restricted, I didn’t have much of craving for it and so I didn’t have it.
  6. Home-made food – This was one of the most important reason for my weight loss. I was having home-made food – food made with love and care by my family.  I completely stopped restaurant food and this helped me recover fast as well.
  7. Healthy food – My food consisted of home-made food, lots of salads, fruits, curd etc.. I took all of these in a balance and they helped in recovering and loosing weight.
  8. Proper sleep – It is said that when we sleep, our body repairs itself. So I was asked to take lot of rest during this period. I was active during the day but as and when I felt sleepy, I slept, without feeling guilty, and this made me feel healthy every time I woke up. Having a healthy lifestyle is another important aspect of maintaining proper body weight. We should follow a proper routine in our life and this will help our body to undertake their activities at the right time.
  9. Consistency – Drinking water, having home-made food, proper sleep etc. will show results only if done consistently. I didn’t have a choice and was forced to be consistent and this resulted in my recovery and weight loss. So consistency is the key here (like everywhere else).
  10. Being grateful – During this whole period, I was grateful to God for all that I had. I felt good about my body. I felt good about my weight. I felt good about being with my loved ones, and I felt grateful for the food and water that went inside my body and healed me.
  11. Don’t keep checking your weight – Just believe in your goal and take steps towards achieving it on a consistent basis. Take the steps for your overall health and be happy about it. If you keep checking your weight, it shows that you are not trusting God, your goal and your actions to achieve the goal. Just give it some time and effort and you will see amazing results.
  12. Little bit of sacrifice is important – We all know that if we want to achieve something, a little bit of effort and sacrifice is needed. I learnt this again during my journey towards recovery.  While focusing on your goal of ideal weight, don’t worry about all that you cannot have or do; instead think about all the new and healthy things you can make and have and most importantly, the goal you can achieve.

Many of you may say that I lost those 7 kgs because of the illness. Yes definitely! I did lose some weight because of the illness. But then came a point in my recovery when my reports were normal and I was still loosing weight. That was when I realized that it was not just because of the illness but also because of all the care I took during the process of recovery that I lost weight.

During the period of illness I couldn’t exercise because I was quite weak. When my reports came normal, my doctor advised me to start my walks.  So now I know that if I combine all the above factors with regular exercise, I will definitely reach my ideal weight.

I know it is not possible to completely follow all the above steps, because of the temptations around us, but if we reduce having junk and oily food or ice-creams; if we start exercising; if we have a proper routine, if we are consistent and on top of it all if we are grateful for what we already have, we will definitely reach our ideal weight.

Start out by being grateful for your present weight, have your ideal weight noted somewhere, take one small step at a time and do it consistently. The results will surprise and motivate you to take bigger and confident steps towards your ideal weight.

Tips to drink more water

I had written in one of my previous posts about my  learning experience from an illness and how I recovered from it just by drinking lots of water. As a continuation of that post, I decided to write about my journey from being a non-drinker to a proud drinker of water.

We all know that water is one of the most essential elements needed by our body. In fact, a major part of our body is made up of water. Though I knew this right from my childhood days I never gave it much importance and hence never drank enough water. Some days, I would drink just one bottle of water, the whole day. My family and friends told me to have more water but I just couldn’t.

This started affecting my body slowly. I started getting small issues and the doctors kept asking me to have lots of water but still I didn’t pay much heed. Then one day I got a bigger illness and the only treatment for it was having lots and lots of water. Thus, began my journey from non drinker to a proud drinker of water. The good habit got instilled in me because of an illness and I decided to continue it forever. From not drinking enough water to drinking 4-5 litres of water everyday, improved my health drastically.

I realized that it is not easy to instill the habit of drinking lots of water and so I decided to share my tips on how to drink more water.  I know there are many articles being written about it. You may already know all the tips I mention here, but do give them a read  because knowing something and putting it into practice are two different things. If you keep reading the tips in different articles, chances of you believing them and putting them into practice are more.

  1. Deciding the quantity of water intake – It is important to decide the quantity of water you intend to take everyday. Your body will give you an indication if the water intake is less and accordingly you can increase it. For example, in summers you will feel thirsty and in winters your lips and skin will become dry.  Normally, it is said that we should have at least 8 glasses of water everyday. So it is better to begin with this and increase according to your body needs.
  2. Quantity of water intake varies – The quantity varies depending on the body needs, weather conditions, geographical locations etc. So it is important to consider all these factors.
  3. Buy bottles instead of glass – One of the best things I discovered was, having water from bottles instead of glass. The disadvantage with glass is that once it gets over, you have to get up and refill it to drink water again and this sometimes doesn’t happen till you get up to refill. But with bottles, if you fill it up with water, you will mindlessly keep drinking water even when you are doing something else and the bottles will be empty before you even know it.
  4. Always keep a bottle full of water near you – This sounds simple but it is a very useful tip. If you have a water bottle near you, you will keep sipping water while watching T.V., reading a book, studying, thinking, talking etc. and even before you realize, you will be finishing up bottles of water and reaching your target.
  5. Schedule your water intake – Scheduling your water intake helps to keep track of the intake and whether you are reaching your target or not. It is always said that we should begin our morning with water as this helps to remove the toxins from the body. So have the first bottle in the morning, second in the afternoon, third in the evening and fourth bottle at night. This will help you to have equal consumption throughout the day. It is better to finish the last bottle before late night as it will help you to settle into a peaceful sleep.
  6. In addition – The water intake should be in addition to the other liquids that you intake like tea, coffee, juices, infused water etc… This will ensure that your body gets enough water. The other drinks may not be your regular drinks so it is better not to include them in the quantity of water intake you decide because you may end up not having them at all.
  7. Drink water as it is – Many a times people don’t like to drink water as it is. They think that plain water is boring. They prefer to have some taste in their water. Hence they go for substitutes like infused water. The infused waters have good health benefits and so they may seem like a good idea but they may not be convenient all the time. So if you get into the habit of having only infused water and if at some point you don’t find the ingredients, you may end up not having any water at all.  So it is better to drink water as it is and not complicate it.
  8. Linking water drinking habit to other habits – One other way to develop this habit is to link drinking water to some routine tasks like after going to toilet, before food, after coming from outside etc… This will ensure that you drink water mindlessly.
  9. Drink warm or cold water according to the weather –  I have noticed that my water intake depends on the weather. If it is a hot summer day, cold water (not ice-cold but normal cold) quenches my thirst and in winters warm water (not boiling water but lukewarm water) keeps me warm and I tend to drink more. Drinking cold water in winters will make you feel more cold and you will find it difficult to finish your bottles. Similarly in summers when the weather is hot outside, the cold water will cool you down.
  10. Fruits and vegetables – Fruits and vegetables are high in water content.  They are another source of high water intake.

The water drinking habit has cured me of my illness. In addition there are a few other improvements that I noticed like it made my skin clear, improved my digestive system, increased my overall health, increased my concentration levels.

I hope many of you find my tips useful and are encouraged to drink more water because it definitely is a magical drink with umpteen benefits. Please don’t be discouraged if you fail a couple of times to instill this habit because it usually takes some time and effort on a consistent basis to form a habit.

A learning experience!

Hi friends,

How are you all doing?  I have been enjoying the festival of Diwali with lots of good food, bright lights and my favorite people.  Since it is almost the end of the year I am also going through my blog to see what all I have written and how I feel about them now.

Learning experiences

This year has been an important year for me in terms of blogging because I have started blogging regularly.  It all started after my recovery from an illness when I craved to write on my blog.
