Be more attentive

To respond to today’s prompt, I want to start with a quality which you need for success especially if you want to score more than a B+. This quality is attentiveness.

You need to be attentive if you want to make it big in life. There is a very famous story of someone who got a coveted job ahead of many others just because he was attentive. Being attentive can reap enormous benefits.

To produce good music just as any other thing in life, it is important to be attentive to a good number of factors including what others say.

Many people are not attentive to what others say or to what they read. We read things and go away thinking we know what is in what we have read when we do not. We move about not attentive to the posters on the streets, sign boards etc. When we interact with others we do not pay enough attention to what they say.

What has this got to do with today’s prompt?

Many course participants whose posts I have read think we are being asked to do a critique of music; and since this is an area they are ignorant about, they have dismissed the prompt. Did they read it attentively? I doubt it. Read the prompt again.

Of course, there is nothing wrong if you do a critique of music in response to this prompt. Neither is there anything wrong if you take it from a different angle completely. We have been told repeatedly that the prompt is there only to tickle our minds and set our imaginations ablaze to write.

That said, I spent the last week end tidying my blog and reading the blog posts of fellow bloggers. I continue to be amazed by the love, friendship, collaborative spirit and support that I find on the WordPress world. To borrow what I have seen somewhere else, I want to call WordPress ‘Love world.’ I am still working on my blogroll which will enable you to meet some of my most valued friends on WordPress.

What I can advise, if you permit me to do so is,if you want more than a B+ in life, if you want an A, listen attentively to others. Read whatever you read attentively to get exactly what is being communicated to you. As you move about, be attentive to what you see and hear. Be attentive to what you watch on television, hear on radio, read in the papers. Be attentive to your spouse, parents, children, friends, leaders, subordinates, etc.

Be attentive or more attentive!
