Has you ever asked yourself the question as to why African leaders like to stick to power?
It is a normal thing for African leaders to stay in power for life. There are only a few exceptions. And in some cases, they only leave because they are forced to do so.
This is an issue Africans need to put more and more on their discussion agenda. It is imperative that we put an end to this eternalization of people in power.
So how do we explain that once a black man gets to power, he never wants to leave to make way for others?
Let me start the discussion by advancing my own points.
Lack of educated minds: Someone with an educated mind knows and accepts that they are not the only person in their community. They know we share the earth with others who also have a right to be here. We do not have to be selfish or greedy. We have to have a spirit of sharing. The selfish instinct in most African leaders is very strong to the point of greed. Many African leaders are greedy. They don’t want to share power.
Power is sweet. Power is sweet and once somebody tastes it, it becomes hard to give it up unless there is real serious pressure to step down.
Weak constitutions. The constitutions of African countries are generally weak and give room for manipulation. The leaders change them at will to legitimize their long stay in power.
Weakinstitutions Governing institutions like the Parliament, the Senate and the judiciary. are and not free and are manipulated.
Unscrupulous leaders: Many African leaders are unscrupulous. They don’t listen to their consciences.
Fear: Many African leaders are ruled by fear of the unknown. What will happen when they leave power? They could be jailed for all the atrocities they committed while in office.
Western Masters: At times, the Western masters want a particular person to continue in power to facilitate things for them.
These are the points I have. Please, keep the ball rolling. Give your comment or add to the points advanced here.
If you succeed to amass wealth
People fear you;
And respect you;
If you rise in position,
That is if you gain power,
People will follow you.
If you fail or are failing,
People will run away
That is life and the power
We associate with success;
People identify with power;
Because we want our share.
You have to succeed
To be recognized and respected in your community;
Yes, money has power;
With money, enough money,
You can corrupt whoever;
You make people see wrong
To be right,
And right to be wrong;
You make lies truth;
And truth lies;
This is the world
In which we live;
Sad for the poor;
They may get glory in heaven,
But on earth, its hell.
Have you ever read the portion of the bible where Jesus cursed the fig tree and wondered why He took such action on an innocent tree?
Could it have been because there was no friuts on the fig tree for Him to quench His hunger?. It’s also worthy to note that book of Mark 11:13 stated that it was not yet the season of fig trees to bear fruit.
Mark 11:11-24 also recounts the event that transpired between Jesus and His disciples in respect of the fig tree vis-a-vis the important lesson from it.
Furthermore, Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us that; for everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.
So what prompted Jesus to curse the tree if the time of figs wasn’t yet?
Well, Jesus gave the answer and the lesson He wants us to learn in Mark 11:22-24
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have
In other words, Jesus wants us to know that as children of God we have the authority to command and issue decrees concerning anything or circumstance and it will happen according to our faith.
It’s interesting to know that God has given man dominion to rule over situations Ab initiogenesis 1:26
This goes to show that there’s a measure of God’s power in us, and its efficacy depends solely on the level of our faith.
In summary, Jesus passed a judgment on the fig tree not necessarily because it was fruitless, but because He wants us to know and understand that we can achieve our heart desire if we believe and exercise unwavering faith in God as touching anything.
There is power in unity;
When we work together,
We do more
Than when we work individually;
When we pray together
We make a more
There is power in unity;
We come together
As a family
Of God’s people,
And pray together.
We thank God
For this opportunity;
For his Church;
That offers us the opportunity
To journey together
Helping and supporting
Togetherness generates power.
As a Noun
A firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.
Relations have to be built on trust. A relationship built on mutual trust and respect
It is an arrangement whereby a person (a trustee) holds property as its nominal owner for the good of one or more beneficiaries.
“A trust was set up”
As a Verb
Believe in the reliability, truth, or ability of.
eg. I should never have trusted her
From the above definitions and examples of trust we can deduce that trust is a strong believe and faith in someone or something to fulfil a promise or to deliver.
Trust is not something that is tangible and as such trust is an inward disposition which can only be felt through relating with people or something.
For trust to take place or for anyone to get to that level of being trustworthy it has to be earned just like respect. And one way we can do that is by being truthful, free of deceit, honest and sincere at all times, first with ourselves and with other people. Our yes should be yes and no should be no in line with our firm values.
Trust doesn’t just happen overnight. Trust is earned overtime as a result of consistent honesty, integrity and sincere commitment in relationship with people be it in family, friendship, business, office and as well as our walk with God.
You probably must have heard some people saying i don’t trust that person, i don’t trust that company or product. These statements can be as a result of:
Either such person have not had the opportunity of working or relating with the person, company or using the product in question or;
It could also be that both parties have had the opportunity of working or relating with each other in time past and one of them did not keep to his/her words, hence those statements.
Trust is so powerful and important that we can not do without it especially for those of us of the household of faith.
That’s why the bible asked: Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?
Amos 3:3 NLT
No doubt, God has faith in mankind which is very obvious in His relationship with us. God has so much faith in man to the extent that He gave Satan power over Job to do whatever he pleases but not to kill him. This goes to show the level of God’s trust for Job in vouching for him knowing fully well that Job will not disappoint Him.
Another bible character who God demonstrated His trust for was Abraham in Genesis 18:19:
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord , to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
God said that He knows Abraham and that he will instruct his children to go in the way of the Lord. Can you beat that? And to think that this statement was made prior to the birth of Issac just shows the level of trust God had in Abraham.
It’s clear that we can’t walk with a God we do not trust but one thing I have discovered about some of us is not that we do not trust God but rather we lack the patience to walk and wait patiently on Him.
One virtue that was common in Abraham and Job’s life was patience. Their ability to maintain a positive attitude towards God in their time of waiting was key.
Just like Abraham and Job, irrespective of our circumstances in life we should patiently trust in God in our walk with Him. We should trust and be patient with God in good and in bad times.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Ephesians 6:13 KJV
One of the armour of God is faith ( trust) hence from the above verse we can say after you have done all that’s required, you must have the patience to wait on Him. (stand)
The advantage of trusting God patiently is that you will be at peace irrespective of the condition you are in because you know God is in control. God always fulfils His promise concerning those who trust in Him to the very end. Those who trust in the Lord can not be put to shame.
Every word of God is tested and refined [like silver]; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him.
PROVERBS 30:5 AMP
But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.
ISAIAH 40:31 AMP
When it comes to our relationship with people, trust is very important especially in the family because without trust members of the family will be far apart even while together, they wont be able to defend each other. There won’t be free communication flow. Trust in the family brings about unity and direction of purpose.
Being trustworthy as a business owner or service provider brings about customer loyalty, people will easily talk good of your product or services to other people which will in turn win you more clients and patronage.
You can easily be vouched for when people find you trustworthy, you can be recommended for jobs or contract because they know you will not disappoint them. People can easily confide in you because they know the information will be safe with you.
Reliability is the precondition for trust -Wolfgang Schauble
Some of the dangers of not being trustworthy is that people will not value and respect you. People will find it difficult to associate or do business with you and people will find it difficult to defend you if and when the need arises.
Before us lie two paths – honesty and dishonesty. The shortsighted embark on the dishonest path; the wise on the honest. For the wise know the truth; in helping others we help ourselves; and in hurting others we hurt ourselves. Character overshadows money, and trust rises above fame. Honesty is still the best policy. -Napoleon Hill
Many thanks for stopping by, until i come your way again…
“Success is not as hard to achieve as it looks. What makes you unable to achieve it as you desire to is your wrong approach due to ignorance. If you are honest and humble enough to admit that there is a power greater than you which controls your life and you turn over full control of it to him, you will find success coming in ways that will startle you. When you try to go for it on your own, you are bound to hit your head here and there and end up not having what you want. ” Romilia Quotes
In the Psalmist's song of praise As recorded in Psalm 8:4-6, He talks to God about us human beings, He tells God, "...you made them only inferior to yourself; you crowned them with glory and honour. You appointed them rulers over everything you made; you placed them over all creation..." This is a very important passage in the Bible. God is the creator of the universe; God is all powerful; God is our creator; If He can create us, And create something so immense As the universe, What can He not do? And if God made us "only inferior" to himself, Who can doubt how powerful We are! Genesis tells us "God created man in his own image." We have the image of God, It means we are powerful; But are we aware of our power? Are you aware of your power? And if you are, what are you doing with such tremendous power? It is extraordinary power Given by God himself, To use to create the best life For yourself and others; To be a coworker with him, To make the world an excellent place For all to enjoy. Ask him to tell you What you must do. He is waiting to hear from you. You can easily waste it; Be careful not to waste it. Blessings as you use your extraordinary power to make the world a better place!
